ABOUT THE ARTIST--Doni Jo McBeath
I am a lifelong resident of St. Paul, Minnesota.
I am married with three children and presently, three cats, though the 'critter
count' fluctuates in our home.
I would describe myself as a self-taught designer first, engineer second,
and artist last. Creating is second nature to me. It is an ever-present under
current in my life. I am always processing new design ideas (The Designer)
and re-engineering established designs (The Engineer). The prominent question
that I ask is how can the ordinary be turned into something EXTRAordinary?
(The Artist)
The sewing machine is my primary tool. I grew up crawling around under my
mother's sewing machine and have been operating my own since the age of six.
I have never been satisfied with just the mechanics of sewing a garment
that looks like the picture on the pattern envelope. Creating my own patterns
and coming up with unconventional ways to use the sewing machine is much more
stimulating.
While sitting at my sewing machine all kinds of ideas appear. As a result, I have expanded my creative field to include polymer clay creations (check out Fortunes Framed©), making jewelry, screen print designs for clothing… the list continues to grow! It is with this in mind that I would encourage you to check back often to see what else may be in the offering!
ABOUT ART FOR YOUR FRAME
Art For Your Frame was established in 1997. This is when I quit an icky office job and began designing, producing and retailing my product line in earnest.
In 2004 I moved out of the “homestudio” a.k.a . the basement, trading the “convenient commute” and the ability to work in my pajamas all day for more operating space and some retail opportunity. Art For Your Frame now resides in Studio #422 in the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis, MN. The building has approximately 200 working studio spaces - all of them occupied by creative creatures such as myself. It is a pleasure to work in this environment. www.northrupkingbuilding.com
I continue to be the sole “employee” and produce ninety percent of my product line. When deadlines demand, the 10% goes to a local organization that helps establish new immigrants in our area. They are paid a fair wage, provided some health care, child care, language assistance and can work toward purchasing their own equipment to become independent contractors. www.projectregina.org
When summer arrives in Minnesota I hit the road and retail my product attending local art fairs. Please refer to the Schedule Information on this site to find where I might be next.
Though most of my sales have been through direct retail I have begun selling wholesale. Please contact me via e-mail if you have an interest in purchasing wholesale.
NEW VENTURES!
I am in the process of creating a mail order catalogue. Please check back
for details! In the meantime, check out the gallery to get a glimpse of what
types of products will be featured in the catalogue and/or feel free to contact
me at any time for availability and pricing.
